    • Hi OA
      Thanks. This has been what I’ve been trying to do, simplify the sketches. You’ll see no.1 is basically a quick scribble, almost a continuous line. Then i added in simple dark tones from a fibre tip. Later I put in just three watercolour tones, and stopped.
      The second one was actually done first. The colours came from watercolour pencils. I put in too many lines, e.g. a hard linear horizon, and had to suppress this with a layer of conte crayon.

    • maggie and milly and molly and may
      E. E. Cummings – 1894-1962

      maggie and milly and molly and may
      went down to the beach (to play one day)
      and maggie discovered a shell that sang
      so sweetly she couldn’t remember her troubles,and
      milly befriended a stranded star
      whose rays five languid fingers were;
      and molly was chased by a horrible thing
      which raced sideways while blowing bubbles:and
      may came home with a smooth round stone
      as small as a world and as large as alone.
      For whatever we lose (like a you or a me)
      it’s always ourselves we find in the sea

      • I love that album (ok I love all her work), but never connected the words with the poem. She’s wonderful live, if you ever get the chance.

      • I could have guessed you’ld know her. That album was my introduction to her (a radio programme about poetry set to music first brought her to my attention), but never seen her live.
