For The Earth Had Circled The Sun Yet Another Year

Pen and conte crayon on brown paper, with layered crayon and brushpen.

Pencil on brown paper does not show up well without digital enhancement, even with crayon scraped across it leaving the lines visible beneath.

Posted listening to a piano selection, starting with Philip Glass “Etude no. 2”, then Poppy Ackroyd “Birdwoman” then A Winged Victory for the Sullen “We Played Some Open Chords and Rejoiced For The Earth Had Circled The Sun Yet Another Year”.

    • We got a last minute holiday in Greece at half term, and I found a quiet road nearby through olive groves I could go and draw for a couple of ours. I worked only on brown paper with graphite, black pen, brush pen and a limited selection of conte crayon. I was trying to extend these studies of olive trees I’d started on my last holiday, and explore the media. I kept asking myself how to simplify my drawing and abstract, like Rosie does with her standing stones, but I just can’t see the composition that way.

      • Thanks
Like you, I feel I’ve lost my way a bit in art. These were a deliberate effort to go back to observation, then on the last day I put time aside and drew the abstract I posted a few days ago, working in ink and soft pastel. I was so lucky. We had an upstairs balcony where I could draw undisturbed.

      • Yes I feel that may be the answer. I loved the abstract. I did see it before, but that day none of my ‘likes’ registered. Went back earlier today and pressed the button again.
