A quick sketch for my son’s birthday card a year or two ago. The picture of Odysseus escaping Charybdis posted previously was painted for his recent 21st birthday. Yes, there is a theme here.
This started as colour drying under cellophane creating odd shapes. I painted into this over some weeks as some kind of narrative suggested itself.
I had recently read Flow by Philip Ball. This explores the patterns emerging in nature under seemingly random conditions. When walking in Northumbria, I tried in this sketch to get some sense of the turbulence in this stream.
